Save Lives by Sending Holiday E-cards

The holiday season is right ahead and family and friends have already started sending holiday cards to each other. Sending e-cards is a common practice these days but many of us still like to pay postage so as to convey our feelings of love and care to our near and dear. But one wonderful thing about e-cards is that in addition to saving money, they can save lives. Wonder how?

Well, it’s simple. The postage you pay into sending a printed card by regular/urgent mail can be saved and donated to a life-saving cause. You may go on social media, like Facebook, and pick any of the great life-saving causes, donating the postage amount to save a precious life. The cause dog lovers are focusing now is Dogs in Brazil, a small shelter given to rescuing street dogs in Brazil, and now looking for funds to start working as a non-profit. To donate to Dogs in Brazil, visit their Facebook page, and scroll down a little to the Give button and donate as you would spend on postage.

But what about the holiday cards you were to cheer your dear ones with? Simply pick any pretty card at the free e-card sites, like 123greetings, and in a few seconds, greet your loved ones happy holidays.
A happy holiday season to all!

El Toro de la Vega—The Brutal Culture of Torture

Those who believe that Europe is out of the Dark Ages need to think again, not forgetting the horrors inflicted on animals even in the 21st-century Europe, like it would have been in a world where man was little more than a beast in his attitude and action. While animals suffer horribly in many parts of the continent, particularly Eastern Europe, there is no place like an earthly hell than Spain when it comes to bulls. Beside the of bullfighting in which abused bulls are regularly tortured in a false cover of “fighting”, the country is host to another bloody practice, considered a “sport” and part of the culture—the El Toro de la Vega.

Called by some the Shame of Spain, this day of torture for bulls is celebrated in Spain each year in the second week of September in the town of Tordesillas. A bull is released into the countryside and dozens of townsfolk chase it, shouting in excitement as they stab the bull and pierce him with spears. When the bull succumbs to the mob’s torture, and falls down out of exhaustion and wounds, his tail and testicles are cut and held proudly as trophies. The bull, if still alive, is then slaughtered while the City Council of Tordesillas awards a prize to the one displaying the “trophies”.

Animal slaughter, even under the pretext of getting “nutritious food”, is subject to questioning and condemnation. This kind of torture of animals, covered as a cultural/traditional heritage, is the worst a generation can pass to its descendents. Those who understand and care are now raising a voice against the El Toro de la Vega day. An online petition is seeking voice to join its cause of putting an end to the utterly cruel treatment of bulls in this Spanish horror of a cultural show. Hopefully, this part of Europe will come out of the Dark Ages before another generation is corrupted with the culture of torture.

Vucko — The Victim of Shocking Brutality

Liquor and sadism, when let in together, rob a man of all humanity and make a hideous monster of him, one that has no memory of what pain is, and no respect for life. This is the least one could say about the unbelievably cruel crime of two intoxicated youths in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, last month. They chose to victimize a dog and their unfortunate target came to be a German Shepherd, called Vucko. The young brutes taped fireworks/bomb to Vucko’s mouth and blew it, causing the dog the worst pain possible, with horrible facial mutilation, followed by infection of the wound.

Though he was examined by vets, Vucko had little chance to get to life and he was euthanized by the authorities. His story was posted on blogs of animal lovers/supporters of animal rights, but not published in any regular media outlet. However, on social media, the call for justice in his case received a lot of support. Still now, caring people are asking the concerned authorities to take action against the criminal youths who inflicted such horrific pain on Vucko. More than one activism sites are hosting petitions asking for justice in Vucko’s case.

Please sign the petition to make sure Vucko’s murderers are not spared and are brought to justice. Also, please share on Facebook and your social media pages/blogs to do justice to Vucko by including your voice. Brutality to innocent animals is unbearable. Let us put an end to it!

Post Adoption Calls for Endangered Animals

In the course of saving animals from death in shelters and animal control facilities, it is important to get the availability of animals for adoption publicized as widely as possible. Those having blogs and social media pages can do a tremendous service by sparing a little time daily to post some short animal adoption calls (provided by the shelter) online. In this regard, I got the following message from a Facebook friend’s wall.

Would you consider posting/cross-posting dogs/cats at PCAC in Cedartown Ga? We are one county over from FCAC in Rome Ga. We posts dogs and cats on PetFinder right now but only have one volunteer doing pictures a few hours a week - so a lot never make it on. They also kill them very quickly (they sometimes don't hold them the legal hold time - commissioners don't care) so it is hard to get pictures and get them posted quick enough. I think if we had more exposure that might help.

Thanks,
Jeanie Waddell

Wesley Dies in 48 Hours, Unless you Intervene

His eyes look at the camera as if asking who will give him a chance at life? Pit pull Wesley has only two days left to live. Like many endangered dogs at animal shelters, he is a victim of the human occupation of land where a dog without a human owner is killed for the crime of being on his own. Wesley, just 5 months old, has a whole life ahead, but he needs it to be granted. With 48 hours left to live, unless a caring soul intervenes, Wesley’s clock of hope is ticking. Say ‘No’ to Meat!

The meat and its many tempting dishes on your dining table don’t come clean. They are the violated, slaughtered remains of a life that feels the pain as you would feel when put through the life-snatching trial. The video below is a glimpse of the fear felt by a cow whose life is near its end. Say NO to eating meat, and save life from pain and suffering.

Save Pit Bull ‘Bones’ from Impeding Death

Pit bulls continue to be targeted breed-specifically by animal control freaks. The stealthy murder of Ace is still haunting people who care about life and ethics, and we suddenly have a new victim. Named Bones, this pit bull is alive but has been captured by the New York City Department of Health, which may kill it for no crime except for himself being abused by his owner. Bones’ life is in danger.

The story of Bones is tragic and depressing. Owned by a junkie, he was abused by his owner in that he was made to bite his owner’s roommate, a guy named David Shadha last month, one who was then killed by Bones’ owner, most likely by a hard hit with a metal pipe. Whether Bones did bite Shadha hasn’t been confirmed yet, or not made public at least; but the fact that Bones may be killed by the Department of Health has created a serious concern among dog lovers and animal rights supporters as well as all caring people, who don’t see any fault or harm for which Bones might be held responsible. Why would he be killed then? Perhaps only because he is a pit bull, and we know in many places in the US, pit bulls are becoming what innocent Jews had become to Nazis in the Second World War.

Reported in New York Post, law enforcement sources find Bones a wonderful dog, one who is no more than a victim of abuse. Let not a victim be killed simply because he was manipulated to take a bite at somebody. We must save Bones from becoming the ultimate victim of cruelty which is hovering on his life as death. Speak up for Bones and sign the petition here in order to save his life. Also, please write to the contacts listed at the end of this post and/or contact your nearest animal rescue groups. Bones is innocent. Let us save him!

The Blue Cross Wins £6000 Prize

British animal welfare charity The Blue Cross has won a £6000 prize for helping sick animals in London’s most deprived areas. The Blue Cross website informs that the prize money will be used to fund their mobile veterinary clinic that is part of the charity’s Victoria animal hospital where hundreds of animals receive treatment annually. The Blue Cross thanked everyone who voted for them to get the prize and help animals in need of treatment.

The Blue Cross helps a large number of animals on an ongoing basis, including rescuing animals from life-threatening situations and providing emergency treatment to animals surviving trauma of different types. Many of their rescued animals are adopted out to loving homes. A recent example is Sandy, a seriously ill homeless cat, suffering from asthma and heart condition, that was found and treated medically by The Blue Cross. When Sandy got better, he was adopted out to a caring family where he will spend his coming Christmas.

The Blue Cross depends on help from caring people to help pets. There are a number of ways in which you may help. To help, visit now the How Can You Help page on their website!

DAC—A Nightmarish Contemporary Concentration Camp

Animal control—the euphemism for massacre of helpless life forms—has been taken to the utmost level of abuse and cruelty by a place where helpless dogs are captured, imprisoned, abused, and killed with no regard for ethics and even court orders. Welcome to the earthly hell for homeless dogs, aka the Detroit Animal Control (DAC).

The horrors of this entity continue to come to the surface after its reckless killing of a stray pit bull named ‘Ace’ that had the fateful chance to come across the DAC staff that captured it outside a hardware store and imprisoned it as per state law: capture homeless pit bulls (again the breed which suffers without reason just like Jews suffered at the hands of Nazis in World War 2) and if their owners are not found in a short time, kill them. These captured dogs are not handed over to anybody—individuals or rescue groups. They are sentenced to death for the simple reason that they are not lucky enough to have an owner.

In the case of Ace’s killing, DAC did what made people cry and condemn the animal control body for its insensitivity, defiance if law, fraud, and cruelty. Owing to appeals from all over the county as well as other parts of the world to spare Ace’s life and give it over for adoption to a rescue group or any of the numerous people asking to adopt him, the Wayne County Court ordered DAC not to kill Ace. But the dog-killers did what they had to do. Ace was literally executed, and with such secrecy that it made the animal control sound like a cult given to murdering dogs with the curtains closed.

Not only did DAC disobey the court order but so daringly (read shamelessly) assumed the position that they never received the court order while Corbett O’Meara has told media that he himself delivered the court injunction to DAC and is now going to sue the animal control for illegally killing the animals. There is a lot more to this story of a helpless dog whose life was savagely destroyed by his captors and who is now being remembered with teary eyes by so many advocates of protecting life. At least one first-hand witness who has been at DAC to see Ace has described a horrific instance of cruelty to little puppies and there is evidence claimed by more than one person that Ace was killed a number of days earlier than declared by the DAC.

Ignoring court orders and killing a dog despite repeated appeals with the pseudo-reasoning that if they grant this animal’s life, they’ll have to spare all, DAC undoubtedly qualifies for being marked as a contemporary concentration camp right in America—a bunch of dog killers who can eat and sleep well with hands all red in innocent blood. Let us strongly condemn this barbarianism. Please contact the mayor of Detroit and ask for justice in the form of closure of this dog concentration camp, investigation of Ace’s killing, and maximum possible punishment for the culprits found guilty of cruelty to dogs.

It’s time to stop sadistic killing of dogs under the senseless rubric of animal control. Let’s control the killers!

Stop the Cruel Sport of Bullfighting!

Some cultures are bathed in the blood of animals, whether in form of mass slaughter to commemorate myths and traditions of sacrifice, or for the sake of mere entertainment. Of the latter, bullfighting is the most infamous example. Killing bulls in front of audience is just one horrific side of this brutality visible to the spectator. What is hidden is the intense physical abuse of the bulls, prior to letting them out in the field for the show, in order to make them aggressive and make the inhuman show possible.

Countries like France and Spain try to justify the cruel practice of bullfighting by calling it a kind of cultural heritage. But is it? Can something that provides entertainment by abusing innocent animals be a cultural heritage? If so, maybe it’s time to end this diseased part of the culture.

Care2 is hosting a petition to urge UNESCO for stop considering it cultural heritage as it is sheer cruelty inflicted on bulls, resulting the annual killing of almost 250, 000 bulls. Please sign the petition to say NO to this abuse masked as culture.

Thank you!

Stop Sadistic Ukrainian Teenager Killing Stray Dogs

One of the most terrible cases of sadistic killing of dogs has surfaced in Ukraine in the form of a 19-year-old guy who is hunting stray dogs to capture and kill them by putting them through most brutal torture. The killer named Alexey Vedulu is said to have killed over 100 dogs and puppies by various torture-filled methods. He is still at large and doesn’t care about law, which in his part of the world is too loose to scare him into sparing dogs.

Alexey Vedulu started posting photos and videos of his victim dogs on the Internet in October 2011, and attracted attention of animal rights activist. However, his story has not been covered by any major media source. According to authorities in his city of residence Kiev, Vedulu was injured by some stray dog in his childhood. Since then he has been obsessed with revenge on dogs and is now a compulsive dog killer. He plans new methods of torture-killing dogs by discussing with friends. Killing helpless dogs is his cruel obsession.

A petition has been created to get Vedulu arrested and prosecuted for brutal, gratuitous killings of dogs. The petition urges the Ukrainian President to take notice of Vedulu’s crimes and order his arrest before he can spell more innocent blood.

Thanking Vegetarians on Eid—the Day of Slaughter

Note: This blog post is for the vegetarian community only. If you are not a vegetarian, don’t read further.

Today, hundreds of millions of people of Muslim faith across the globe are celebrating Eid-ul-Azha, commemorating the story of Abraham’s sacrifice (of his own son, per religious tradition) by ritualistic slaughter of millions of animals they would eat, and waste. Considered a fundamental festival (as it is called) of the Islamic world, the occasion stretches over 3 days of slaughter, eating and greeting. But is there any point in killing animals when vegetarian food is available? Certainly not!

Slaughtering animals for food shows disrespect to life and Eid-ul-Azha is one of the classic manifestations of this attitude. Not only is this cruel festival responsible for killing innocent animals for superstition but also it kills the spirit of true sacrifice—the kind in which you will eat less to feed a hungry animal; abstain from luxury to save money for a poor one’s food or shelter; and above all, feel for other’s pain. Is Eid-ul-Azha capable of bringing about this kind of compassion to its followers? It does the opposite: by letting you kill life, it gives you an okay signal to your destructive instinct.

There are some caring and daring people who, even in places like Pakistan, express their disgust of the occasion rationally. An article that made my day is up here. Standing aloof and steering clear of any bloodshed, I want to thank all vegetarians for staying loyal to life. Let’s get to prepare ourselves some vegan stuff now!

Let Homeless Dogs in Moscow Live

Earlier this month, Care2 started a petition to save homeless dogs and other homeless animals in Ukraine. While that petition still has several thousand signatures to get in order to meet its target of 500, 000 signatures, homeless dogs in Russia have been put at the risk of maltreatment and possible death.

News coverage of homeless dogs in Russia is presented in this YouTube video about Moscow’s stray dogs. One can see, enjoy, and appreciate how these friendly four-legged citizens of the Russian metropolitan have adapted to the busy urban life, some of them actually traveling via subways along with fellow human passengers. They are liked and loved by many people and fed too.

Yet, many people in Russia complain that the strays are a bother and should be removed from places of public (aka ‘human’) use. The Russian president is thinking of having the Moscow’s homeless dogs removed from the city to a facility 150 miles outside the city. This has created great concern among those concerned with safety of animals as the facility in question is considered by many to be infested with disease, so the dogs moved there are likely to become ill and may not survive for long.

Care2 is hosting a petition to ask the Russian president for considering to drop his plan for abandoning the dogs to an unhygienic facility and instead work with animal welfare groups for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the homeless dogs of Moscow. Please visit the petition page to voice your concern to the Russian president and sign the petition to save the dogs that are peaceful members of Moscow.

Those who haven’t yet signed the petition to save Ukraine’s dogs, please visit the related petition page and sign the petition now to end the cruelty shown to animal life in Ukraine

Two Senior Dogs Need Safety against Death

Two senior dogs of a family suddenly face death at the hands of humans before their natural death arrives. These dogs have been placed at a kill facility in Hempstead, New York, after their owner died. Now their only chance at life is adoption by a caring family.

The story of these dogs is sad as a tragic tale, since their third canine companion, a pit bull, was suffocated to death by the man’s girlfriend in September. Jackpot and Sheba, the two surviving dogs, were living with their owner till he died recently. Left behind alone, the dogs have been placed at a Hempstead animal shelter, and the shelter’s staff has indicated the possibility of euthanizing at least one of them due to his age.

Those caring about animals’ right to live want to save them and are asking all animal lovers, particularly those in or close to Hempstead, to step forward and save the helpless dogs from untimely death. All they need is a family that can provide bit of food, a couple of small beds, basic care. Those interested in saving the dogs can contact April via email at april.viccaro@yahoo.com.

Join Leonardo DiCaprio in Saving Elephants

Hollywood star, and environmental activist and philanthropist, Leonardo DiCaprio needs your participation and support in saving elephants that are still being killed at an alarming rate, mostly in African countries where elephants are already on the brink of extinction. DiCaprio supports the IFAW's Animal Action Education program, which educates young people on saving animals and the environment.

Elephants are killed by humans recklessly for their tuss, used in making ivory. To stop this cruelty, DiCaprio is currently participating in IFAW for this year's Animal Action Week (October 3 to 9, 2011). The campaign includes participation of some 7 million educators, students, and their families in more than 15 countries across the world. The theme for this campaign is "Elephants, Never Forget”. And we must also remember that for each piece of ivory you buy, it’s directly encouraging more killing of the elephants.

Leonardo DiCaprio asks your support in stopping the killing of elephants by refusing to buy ivory items because if we don’t buy ivory, the elephants won’t be killed for it. Let’s come forward and put an end to this web of cruelty and greed. Visit the Kinerta page for elephant protection and act with DiCaprio now to save precious life.

Stop Ukrainians from Burning Animals to Death

We can rightly call it the ultimate brutality—burning helpless animals alive to ashes only to clear the grounds for football tournament. The Ukrainian authorities are shooting and capturing homeless animals in the city of Lysychansk as part of preparations for the Eurofoot 2012. Mobile crematoriums are being used for this barbarianism in and outside of the city.

Mostly these are dogs and cats falling victim to the cruelty of Ukrainian shoot-and-kill mobile teams, armed with guns. One of the worst examples of cruelty to animals, this brutality is being condemned by caring people and groups and over 270, 000 people have already signed the Care2 petition asking the Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to intervene and end this nightmare soon as possible.

Please visit the Care2 petition page and sign the petition to help the life from horrors of this blood-filled sport. You may also write to the Ukraniaan President directly at:

Home for Francesca

The following is a Facebook post by Philly Urgents Page telling about a cute and nice dog Francesca that was left the shelter by her owner who did not have time to care for her. While she is not facing a life threat as such, she certainly deserves a loving family to take her in and make her part of the family.

Francesca (A13031368) is a petite little terrier mix about 3 to 5 years old. She was surrendered for adoption because her owner was sick and could no longer care for her. Francesca is very scared here in the shelter and needs people to go slow with her while she adjusts. She is slightly underweight and could stand to gain a few pounds. Francesca showed no interest in cats and seems good with other dogs. At first, she can be shy but once she feels comfortable, she is more playful. Since we don’t know much about her past, it would be best for her to not be placed in a home with small children. When you come to meet her please bring all older children and other dogs that live in the house. This sweet lady needs a chance to come out of her shell where she can shine. Come to meet this pretty lady today!

This dog is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. Adoption hours are 1-8 Monday through Friday and 10-5 on weekends. If you are interested in fostering, please contact nsmith@pspca.org or jsweeney@pspca.org.

Save Pravi—the animal rescuer—from closing down

One of the saddest news in recent top stories is the possible closure of Pravi, a non-profit animal-saving association based in Algrave, Portugal. The reason for the closure is financial difficulty due to lack of financial contribution by donors. Not caring? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The story in Algrave Resident, dated August 19th, notes that Pravi has saved more than 1500 cats and dogs this year, neutering more than 300 and has already scheduled more sterilizing operations. However, the organization has been receiving little more than nothing from contributors. This has led the organization indebted to veterinary centers by as much as €4000. With no funds available, Pravi has only two options left: get quick support through donations by citizens, or just close down.

If Pravi closes down, the hundreds of abandoned animals in Portugal’s streets will lose any hope of life and care by the organization which has so far committed to their rescue. All animal lovers and caring people are therefore being requested by Pravi to step forward and contribute however little or more they can, so that the helpless animals can have a second chance at life.

To help Pravi, please write to pravi.algarve@gmail.com. Contributions can be made directly to bank account with the NIB number 0033 0000 4530 8483 78 805. To learn more about the organization, visit its blog http://pravi-portugal.blogspot.com/.

Life-Savior ‘Faith’ Faces Death

Our human values place life above most, if not all, things. Saving somebody’s life is the greatest act of humanity one can imagine. But in Ontario, Canada, one heroic canine figure is being put to death after she saved the life of a woman. Yes, you read it right—a dog is going to be killed despite that she saved a lady from dying and that thankful lady is more than ready to take her in. Yet the Ontario’s law, blind to all reason and compassion, wants the dog dead.

KJ Mullins shared the story of Faith, a 10-month-old Pit Bull mixed-breed puppy, who came to rescue a 30-year-old lady Kalena Mallon after she passed out on roadside near her home in Brantford due to sudden attack of stroke. Lying in deadly danger of being crushed by any of the cars rushing along the road, the unconscious Mallon was ignored by strangers who saw her lying there. Then came this homeless puppy to stand by Mallon, protecting her from the danger of being hit to death while the cars rushed by, honking. This situation created a commotion and drew the attention of Mallon’ husband to come out and take his wife inside to revive her. While Mallon’s husband, who named the savior dog “Faith”, recalls the incident, he says that Faith must have come from heaven to save his wife.

But then came the Ontario authorities when Mallon’s husband called the local SPCA and they told the family that being the breed she was, Faith wasn’t allowed to live in Ontario. Not only that, but she would be put to death if somebody outside Ontario didn’t adopt her soon. They took Faith away, not allowing the family to keep their benefactor. Now this innocent life-savior is waiting in Brantford’s SPCA for someone to save her from death at the hands of the race whose member she saved by endangering her own life.

Faith has 7 days to find a savior. She is a hero, an angel, and yet the barbarian laws of the ‘developed’ Canada, which invites scores of immigrants from around the world each year, will seize her life because they think there isn’t enough space on this planet for her to stand on. But will Faith’s death not be the murder of our faith in humanity? Will we ever be able to claim that we were kind to those who saved our families? Hardly imaginable! So let’s save Faith and prove ourselves more than mere beasts in a technological world.

Please write to the Mayor of Brantford (Email: cfriel@brantford.ca) and Brantford’s SPCA (Email: manager@brantcountyspca.com) to spare the life of the savior who maybe saving more lives like Kalena Mallon in future. Also write to any/all media channels or sources that you can. Tell them that we still have to have Faith.

Remember, God made the world in 7 days. We humans, created in the image of God, can save a benefactor’s life in 7 days too. Let’s begin.

Thank you all!

Get Baby Paloh Free from Chains

The day that the first human born with a fully exploitative gene in his constitution breathed on this planet must have been a dark phase in the history of life on this planet. And worse would have been the day when humans learnt the use of making chains. Not only will he use this instrument of torture on his own kind but terrorize innocent animals and enslave them. And if that wasn’t enough, take a good look at this innocent baby elephant, named Paloh, who has been chained torturously at the Johor Zoo in Malaysia.

As this post on Free Malaysia Today describes, Paloh feet has been chained so tightly that she can’t sit or lie down for rest, forced to stand in place. When the need to shift position presses too hard on the baby animal, it helplessly tries to make two-footed hops sidewise. Investigators consider Paloh’s torture at the zoo as one of the worst cases of cruelty to animals ever witnessed in the country. It’s the little-seen end of sadism, the sickness that eats away all that crosses its dark path. Paloh’s angst is a reminder that a country like Malaysia, rich in nature’s gift of life, still has to go a long way before making a claim to civilization.

Animal lovers, supporters, and activists are sharing the link to Paloh’s heart-rending story on Facebook and blogs. Change.org has already created a petition page to ask Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to order the concerned management for freeing Paloh. The right course of action of course would be to punish the person(s) responsible for this act of cruelty and make sure nothing of the sort happens in future.

Please take a moment to sign the petition page here in order to free the helpless baby elephant from chains.

With Asbestos from Canada

The business and industrial sector of developing countries eternally suffer from the hunger for growing – in assets and profit-making trade. Very often, the price is paid by its working class, usually with their health, and even with life. An example is the trade of asbestos-containing products exported by developed countries to its less developed client countries where few care about and/or resourceful enough to prevent the damage done to life, mainly by the carcinogenic effect of asbestos. Isn’t it the responsibility of the developed nations to take preventive measures in such cases?

Certainly we have a case here for nations like Canada which export asbestos-containing products to developing countries. Recently, there has been increasing concern over Canada’s asbestos industry and trade of the same with developing nations like India. Care2, in this context, has created a petition page to ask the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to make it Canada’s trade policy telling the truth about the health hazards of asbestos to the countries engaging in trade of asbestos-containing products with Canada.

Please sign the petition to save people from asbestos related deaths sold in the form of commercial products.

Save Sharks, not Soup!

In her breathtaking western novel The Last Cowgirl, Jana Richman showed us through the eyes of a child that a cow is so very different from its pieces sold by a butcher. And that holds true for all living, breathing animals, including sharks that are being recklessly exterminated by some human cultures simply because their followers have a taste for shark-fin soup. Beside others, Singapore is a major trader of shark fins for which millions of sharks are killed brutally each year, their bodies dumped back in the sea after their fins are cut off. What can be more brutal? Yes, relishing the soup that comes from shedding blood.

No wonder then that 180 species of sharks are threatened for existence this year. Sadly, the lay person has no authority to stop this brutality. But they do have the voice, and using it is the moral obligation as a life form that has a right to exist on planet earth. Caring people are raising their voice to ask the Singaporean government to limit or ban shark fin trade in their country. Please take a moment to save sharks from killing by visiting the petition page at Care2 and signing it. Let life prevail against a cup of soup!

The Kimberley and Humpback Whales are in Danger!

Australia’s Kimberley region becomes a nursery for the world’s largest Humpback Whales population every winter due to its natural, unspoiled conditions of the marine and coastal zones. But greed for growing against nature is now heading this heavenly part of the planet too as multinational companies are fixing their ‘commercial eyes’ on the region for mining and drilling projects to exploit the natural resources of the region. In other words, destruction of nature and natural life!

The care2 petition site is gathering caring voices to save the beautiful natural home of Humpback Whales and other life forms from destruction by commercial ventures. An online petition has been created by Care2 to urge upon Environment Minister Tony Burke for saying No to industrialization of the region and protecting the region’s whales and other life from the horrors of industrial expansion.

To sign the petition, visist this page.

Save Seals from Killing!

Killing is usually the first solution that comes to the reason-starved human authorities whenever they face a problem – be it the killing of animals or of other innocent humans. Take the latest case of sea lions for example. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has permitted killing of sea lions that swim up to eat endangered salmon in the Columbia River.

This despite the fact that seals prey on no more than 2.4% of salmon population in the river. And Washington and Oregon states have got the permission from NOAA to kill 85 seals that prey on salmon. Reason would ask “why kill the seals?” Safer solutions of saving salmon without harming the seals can be thought. It seems NOAA, like many other entities, know of only one solution – killing animals to save others, which’s both unnatural an inhuman, given the limited occurrence of seals themselves.

But caring souls speak up against the cruelty and unreason. Care2 has created a petition page asking all caring people to sign the petition that asks NOAA to repeal its decision of killing seals. Please sign the petition and have innocent animals from losing their precious lives. We believe and hope that salmons would be protected by other methods without harming the seals. And you are all, of course, encouraged to send your suggestions to NOAA in your personalized note as the petition’s content.

Thank you all,

PS: I am particularly thankful to our nature-lover friend Caroline Vimla who shared the petition page’s link to the above issue on Facebook.

Save Princess from Death

No matter how loving and caring, dogs continue to face death by humans. And yet, humans are the ones who can save them. Here is another case of caring humans raising voice for a pet dog Princess, a 7-year-old jack Russell Terrier who now faces impending death because she is now more wanted at the house where she was a pet dog. Reason? A new baby is born in that house and Princess has been abandoned to a shelter. Worse yet, she faces euthanasia if somebody didn’t adopt her.

The shy, family-friendly Princess doesn’t deserve t be put to death simply because anther life was born and displaced her. As Martha Jette mentions in her post, Princess does not deserve to be put down simply because she is now in the way. Those who think they can take in a beautiful, caring dog, are requested to consider adopting Princess and saving her life from being killed.

To save Princess, email adoptions@russellrescue.org now. Use the subject line “Pet Inquiry: Princess #110038”.

Save Australian Camels from Massacre!

Not individuals but even governments would often contrive absurdnale (an absurd rationale) to keep alive the tradition of killing incident life forms. Such is the recent ‘plan’ of the Australian government, which means to allow a shooting massacre of Australia’s feral camels. And the reason? Because, as per the absurdnale, camels belch methane and are adding to the global-warming/greenhouse threat to the environment. It’ hard to find the right words to condemn this ridicule of environment and morality.

Not even bothering to remind about the real culprits of the environmental degradation (read human industries and warfare plus artificial lifestyles), the post clearly tells that the quantity of methane produced by a camel is one-sixth of equivalent greenhouse emissions an average car produces. In other words, six camels – large, living, breathing, animals with every right to live – will have to be killed in order to save the auto-industry and sick lifestyle of contemporary Homo sapiens. Does that make sense?

Camels can be a source of milk and it is very much a need in arid areas in Arabian and African regions. So instead of killing them, the Aussies may exchange them for food or other commodities in areas where camels are needed for making a living. Killing is not the only solution, let alone a good one, as against the blood-shedding inclination of many humans, and governments.

Please write to the Australian government and tell them that killing camels isn’t human. So let the camels be given in trade or just a donation to poor countries where they can be used as sources of transport and dairy.

Protect Guatemalan Mothers from Death!

In the 21st century, mothers keep dying in the supposedly most advanced species on the planet – humans!

Care2 tells that Indigenous women in Guatemala are three times more likely to die during pregnancy or childbirth than non-indigenous women. These alarming statistics are the result of a range of factors including discrimination and cultural, financial, and physical barriers.

Health authorities in Guatemala are trying to address this issue but they need to carry out a lot of serious research in order to have a clear undersatdning of the causes of pregnancy and/or childbirth-related deaths.

In an email notification, Care2 has asked all caring people to Sign the Petition, to be forwarded through Health Poverty Action's Mothers on the Margins campaign, urging the Guatemalan government to protect indigenous mothers.

Stop Ivory Trade, Save Elephants

I find it extremely cruel to kill someone in order to rip something off their body just to beautify your room. Making a showy display by seizing life is nowhere human. But that is exactly what has been going on in form of ivory trade. Large, beautiful, innocent life forms as elephants, which are already endangered, are put to death in order to pull out their teeth for making ‘beautiful’ items out it. Is there any beauty in this heinous practice?

Like centuries ago, ivory trade continues to flourish, costing elephants their lives, the only crime of these poor creatures being having teeth that are seen valuable by Homo sapiens. Care2 tells that elephants are in crisis again as stockpile sales to Japan and China have sent a signal to poachers, telling that it’s open season on elephants. And it means, killing again without mercy or reason to get the business rolling.

But it’s TIME to STOP!

All those who care about life and nature, please sign this petition to urge the European Union against ivory Trade, saving the precious lives of these wondrous creatures that belong to this planet as much as we do.

Thank you!

Zak and Lily are Home!

One of the most wonderful groups working for animal wellbeing is The Blue Cross, a charity based in the United Kingdom. It tells heart-warming real-life stories of pets finding another chance at life. In their latest newsletter, they tell about a blind dog Zak and his guide friend Lily, both waiting for some loving, caring family to adopt them. And that is what they got.

The pair was adopted by Elaine and Steve Pickering, one of the 200 callers who asked about adopting the dog pair. The couple drove all the way from Littleborough, Greater Manchester to Devon to meet their pet friends and took them home with great love and care. It was a happy ending to the story of Zak who was left to The Blue Cross by his owner because she was emigrating and could not take Zak along. So finally, Zak and Lily found a home where they can be part of the family and live life as they would ask for.

The Blue Cross is a wonderful place to adopt a pet and welcome them into your family. Visit their adoption page now to see who needs your care and attention.

Cruelty to Circus Elephant Exposed in Video

Animals serve as a source of amusement for people. Some of them become popular film celebrities, like Tai for example. The 45-year-old elephant Tai, who has played one of the lead characters – Rosie – in the recently released film Water for Elephants. While tai may have entertained millions, making them happy and cheer up, her own story of pain and cruel torture at the hands of her trainers.

In this recently released video, we see how Tai and other elephants held captive by circus were electro-shocked with stun guns and beaten with hooks by their trainers to get them do things for entertaining people. As humans, do we have the slightest reason to take pride in subjecting innocent, helpless animals to such treatment? I think not!

So why not stop going to these circuses and stop watching those films wherein amusing performances from animals make you happy, only because you are paying, because entertainment is business, but each smile given to you comes after a thousand pangs inflicted on the bodies and souls of these innocent beings? Please save life from pain. Act now and tell the entertainment industry that humanity comes first and respect for life is bigger than business.

To the injured pup who died in agony and helplessness

You died today in pain
after crying along the roadside
for hours and hours
without anyone coming to your rescue
or just a little relief from pain.

Who knows what vehicle hit you,
And left you to die in agony.
You died alone, because
Humanity died before you did.

Save Fukushima Animals from Starvation!

Rescue teams in post-Tsunami Japan have done a great job saving helpless animals from life-threatening situations. This video shows some animals that have been rescued or were attempted rescuing from the disaster’s aftermath. But more needs to be done since thousands of animals, mostly pets, are left behind in Japanese cities in a 20-km radius around the shattered nuclear power plant of Fukushima.

The animals in these evacuated towns (or ghost towns, as they are called) include cows, pigs, horses, and chickens. But possibly others too since signs of life are evident in the towns, and this left-behind life needs t be saved for life’s sake.

Care2 is asking caring souls to take action and help the starving animals left in towns around Fukushima. Please visit the Care2 take Action page now to read and act.

Saving Polar Bears with Paula

Greenpeace is campaigning to save the lives of polar bears by stopping the oil drilling in the Arctic. Drilling for oil in this region is a serious threat to the lives of polar bears in the region.

For this purpose, Greenpeace is seeking to get the celebrity polar bear Paula, the iconic polar bear from the National Theatre that case her in the play Greenland.

At the moment, Greenpeace needs to raise £ 4000 (about $6600) to get Paula from the National Theatre to lead the Greenpeace campaign for stopping oil-drilling and hence saving precious lives of Paula’s kin.

To donate and/or spread the word, visit the Greenpeace Save Paula Bear! page.

Heroic Action: Hundreds of Dogs Rescued in China

Biggest life-saving news here! Caring souls in Chinese have made history by saving 580 dogs from being slaughtered.

About 200 volunteers, more precisely our heroes, in China have saved 580 dogs from being slaughtered and eaten away as the heroes stopped a truck carrying the dogs in miserable conditions on a Beijing highway. The animal lovers negotiated with the truck driver and paid over 17000 dollars for freeing the dogs.

A number of the dogs, which were being transported torturously to slaughterhouses, were then taken by the volunteers for treatment at an animal hospital in Beijing. Dogs that were not hurt so much were move to a safe place where the volunteers will care for them.

This incident tells how the Chinese, when they come to take action for good, act as wonderful heroes. It is being regarded as a sign of new hope for the otherwise insensitive Chinese culture with respect to animals.

So here go the hats off to our Chinese heroes!

Watch the Associated Press video of the story here.

Somky is Alive!

We have some good news here. Last week, I posted about Smoky – the senior female Chow Chow who had 24 hours left to be saved from euthanasia. I just called the concerned person at the shelter where Smoky is kept and I learnt that she is still alive. Yayyyyyyyy!

Since reading about Smoky and blogging about saving her, I tried to call the shelter contact Samantha Westbrook a number of times to learn whether any caring person had adopted Smoky and saved her from being killed. Finally, I succeeded in reaching Samantha on phone and she told me a while ago that Smoky was still with them, alive and well. I also learnt from Samantha that Smoky’s age is 8 years and not 14 as described on the page at DogsInDanger.

In addition, there was not any set time to put Smoky to euthanasia. So our dear dog still has a chance at life! Let’s hope Smoky is adopted soon by some caring person out there. Please contact Samantha Westbrook at 213 792 5811 for saving Smoky.

24 Hours Left to Save Smoky from Death

Smoky, a 14-year-old black Chow Chow female dog has only 24 hours to live, unless she is saved by someone who cares to save her life from euthanasia that’ll be given to her after a day because the shelter she is at doesn’t have enough space for her anymore.

Kept at the LA City Animal Services - West LA (California), Smoky has been at the shelter just a month. She weighs 64 pounds and has been spayed already. With one day left to live, unless someone intervenes, Smoky is a test for human love and care. It’s time to save her, to give her a chance to die a natural death and not through a euthanizing murder.

To save Smoky, call Samantha Westbrook at 213 792 5811.

Visit Smoky’s page to have a look at her and read her profile.
