Save Lives by Sending Holiday E-cards

The holiday season is right ahead and family and friends have already started sending holiday cards to each other. Sending e-cards is a common practice these days but many of us still like to pay postage so as to convey our feelings of love and care to our near and dear. But one wonderful thing about e-cards is that in addition to saving money, they can save lives. Wonder how?

Well, it’s simple. The postage you pay into sending a printed card by regular/urgent mail can be saved and donated to a life-saving cause. You may go on social media, like Facebook, and pick any of the great life-saving causes, donating the postage amount to save a precious life. The cause dog lovers are focusing now is Dogs in Brazil, a small shelter given to rescuing street dogs in Brazil, and now looking for funds to start working as a non-profit. To donate to Dogs in Brazil, visit their Facebook page, and scroll down a little to the Give button and donate as you would spend on postage.

But what about the holiday cards you were to cheer your dear ones with? Simply pick any pretty card at the free e-card sites, like 123greetings, and in a few seconds, greet your loved ones happy holidays.
A happy holiday season to all!

El Toro de la Vega—The Brutal Culture of Torture

Those who believe that Europe is out of the Dark Ages need to think again, not forgetting the horrors inflicted on animals even in the 21st-century Europe, like it would have been in a world where man was little more than a beast in his attitude and action. While animals suffer horribly in many parts of the continent, particularly Eastern Europe, there is no place like an earthly hell than Spain when it comes to bulls. Beside the of bullfighting in which abused bulls are regularly tortured in a false cover of “fighting”, the country is host to another bloody practice, considered a “sport” and part of the culture—the El Toro de la Vega.

Called by some the Shame of Spain, this day of torture for bulls is celebrated in Spain each year in the second week of September in the town of Tordesillas. A bull is released into the countryside and dozens of townsfolk chase it, shouting in excitement as they stab the bull and pierce him with spears. When the bull succumbs to the mob’s torture, and falls down out of exhaustion and wounds, his tail and testicles are cut and held proudly as trophies. The bull, if still alive, is then slaughtered while the City Council of Tordesillas awards a prize to the one displaying the “trophies”.

Animal slaughter, even under the pretext of getting “nutritious food”, is subject to questioning and condemnation. This kind of torture of animals, covered as a cultural/traditional heritage, is the worst a generation can pass to its descendents. Those who understand and care are now raising a voice against the El Toro de la Vega day. An online petition is seeking voice to join its cause of putting an end to the utterly cruel treatment of bulls in this Spanish horror of a cultural show. Hopefully, this part of Europe will come out of the Dark Ages before another generation is corrupted with the culture of torture.

Vucko — The Victim of Shocking Brutality

Liquor and sadism, when let in together, rob a man of all humanity and make a hideous monster of him, one that has no memory of what pain is, and no respect for life. This is the least one could say about the unbelievably cruel crime of two intoxicated youths in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, last month. They chose to victimize a dog and their unfortunate target came to be a German Shepherd, called Vucko. The young brutes taped fireworks/bomb to Vucko’s mouth and blew it, causing the dog the worst pain possible, with horrible facial mutilation, followed by infection of the wound.

Though he was examined by vets, Vucko had little chance to get to life and he was euthanized by the authorities. His story was posted on blogs of animal lovers/supporters of animal rights, but not published in any regular media outlet. However, on social media, the call for justice in his case received a lot of support. Still now, caring people are asking the concerned authorities to take action against the criminal youths who inflicted such horrific pain on Vucko. More than one activism sites are hosting petitions asking for justice in Vucko’s case.

Please sign the petition to make sure Vucko’s murderers are not spared and are brought to justice. Also, please share on Facebook and your social media pages/blogs to do justice to Vucko by including your voice. Brutality to innocent animals is unbearable. Let us put an end to it!

Post Adoption Calls for Endangered Animals

In the course of saving animals from death in shelters and animal control facilities, it is important to get the availability of animals for adoption publicized as widely as possible. Those having blogs and social media pages can do a tremendous service by sparing a little time daily to post some short animal adoption calls (provided by the shelter) online. In this regard, I got the following message from a Facebook friend’s wall.

Would you consider posting/cross-posting dogs/cats at PCAC in Cedartown Ga? We are one county over from FCAC in Rome Ga. We posts dogs and cats on PetFinder right now but only have one volunteer doing pictures a few hours a week - so a lot never make it on. They also kill them very quickly (they sometimes don't hold them the legal hold time - commissioners don't care) so it is hard to get pictures and get them posted quick enough. I think if we had more exposure that might help.

Thanks,
Jeanie Waddell

Wesley Dies in 48 Hours, Unless you Intervene

His eyes look at the camera as if asking who will give him a chance at life? Pit pull Wesley has only two days left to live. Like many endangered dogs at animal shelters, he is a victim of the human occupation of land where a dog without a human owner is killed for the crime of being on his own. But is it Wesley’s crime to have been left at the shelter, the prison where life remains stranded between hope of living on and the terror of untimely death?

Wesley, just 5 months old, has a whole life ahead, but he needs it to be granted. With 48 hours left to live, unless a caring soul intervenes, Wesley’s clock of hope is ticking. Currently held at the Shasta County Animal Shelter, CA, Wesley may live to see the Christmas with a loving owner or family. Act now to save this life, for life is precious. Let be Wesley be your Christmas gift! For adoption, contact the shelter directly at the address below.

Address: 2690 Radio Lane, Redding, CA 96001

Say ‘No’ to Meat!

The meat and its many tempting dishes on your dining table don’t come clean. They are the violated, slaughtered remains of a life that feels the pain as you would feel when put through the life-snatching trial. The video below is a glimpse of the fear felt by a cow whose life is near its end. Say NO to eating meat, and save life from pain and suffering.

Save Pit Bull ‘Bones’ from Impeding Death

Pit bulls continue to be targeted breed-specifically by animal control freaks. The stealthy murder of Ace is still haunting people who care about life and ethics, and we suddenly have a new victim. Named Bones, this pit bull is alive but has been captured by the New York City Department of Health, which may kill it for no crime except for himself being abused by his owner. Bones’ life is in danger.

The story of Bones is tragic and depressing. Owned by a junkie, he was abused by his owner in that he was made to bite his owner’s roommate, a guy named David Shadha last month, one who was then killed by Bones’ owner, most likely by a hard hit with a metal pipe. Whether Bones did bite Shadha hasn’t been confirmed yet, or not made public at least; but the fact that Bones may be killed by the Department of Health has created a serious concern among dog lovers and animal rights supporters as well as all caring people, who don’t see any fault or harm for which Bones might be held responsible. Why would he be killed then? Perhaps only because he is a pit bull, and we know in many places in the US, pit bulls are becoming what innocent Jews had become to Nazis in the Second World War.

Reported in New York Post, law enforcement sources find Bones a wonderful dog, one who is no more than a victim of abuse. Let not a victim be killed simply because he was manipulated to take a bite at somebody. We must save Bones from becoming the ultimate victim of cruelty which is hovering on his life as death. Speak up for Bones and sign the petition here in order to save his life. Also, please write to the contacts listed at the end of this post and/or contact your nearest animal rescue groups. Bones is innocent. Let us save him!

The Blue Cross Wins £6000 Prize

British animal welfare charity The Blue Cross has won a £6000 prize for helping sick animals in London’s most deprived areas. The Blue Cross website informs that the prize money will be used to fund their mobile veterinary clinic that is part of the charity’s Victoria animal hospital where hundreds of animals receive treatment annually. The Blue Cross thanked everyone who voted for them to get the prize and help animals in need of treatment.

The Blue Cross helps a large number of animals on an ongoing basis, including rescuing animals from life-threatening situations and providing emergency treatment to animals surviving trauma of different types. Many of their rescued animals are adopted out to loving homes. A recent example is Sandy, a seriously ill homeless cat, suffering from asthma and heart condition, that was found and treated medically by The Blue Cross. When Sandy got better, he was adopted out to a caring family where he will spend his coming Christmas.

The Blue Cross depends on help from caring people to help pets. There are a number of ways in which you may help. To help, visit now the How Can You Help page on their website!
