Donate to Help Pierre - the Victimized French Bulldog

Eddie Cintron of K9 Partners of Monroe County has started a fundraising page to help the victimized dog Pierre. Pierre was left in a pet store in the bathroom in a plastic bag. As Eddie Cintron tells, the owner has come forward and there is still a investigation while the Humane Society is returning the dog to the group that was caring for him. Cintron has started this fund to help with all the medical help that Pierre needs.

Pierre’s story as posted on his fundraising page is posted below:

He doesn't whine. He doesn't bark."He snorts a lot and snores, and makes all kinds of noises, said Karla Barkley, GRASP. But the story of Pierre the French Bulldog, is speaking volumes across the country.

“We have had a lot of people interested in fostering or adopting,” Barkley said. “Someone wants to try to find a way to get him to Florida. “Abandoned Sunday night in a garbage bag at Petco, unattended in a bag that he had vomited in, gone to the bathroom in, Pierre is now suffering dehydration, malnutrition, skin irritations and more. It's proof that a dog's life isn't always a walk in the park. There's not enough awareness, and we need to bring the awareness out.”
Karla Barkley is a member of the group “Greece Residents Assisting Stray Pets” - GRASP, for short.

“We have dealt with cases like this in the past. In fact, GRASP"has had to find homes for nearly 300 stray and neglected animals, just this year. Dozens more are on a waiting list on their website. Pierre is only the newest candidate: a four- to six-year-old French bulldog, with one of those faces only a mother could love.”
“He's wonderful, he's very calm, and he’s very loving. He loves the attention,” said Sue Zukowski, GRASP volunteer. Humane Society investigators visited Petco in Pittsford Monday afternoon, where Pierre was found. The Society tells YNN that pet abandonment is a crime, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. But justice will run its course. The focus now is healing Pierre."That's the number one priority right now. And then once his health is better, we will start the process of finding him a forever home."And some forever love, to go along with it.

Stop Brutal Killing of Sharks in Australia

Life on land is not the only one under reckless destruction. Marine life suffers equally. In Australia, sharks are subject to most brutal torture and killings. Following is the description of a petition that asks the Government of Western Australia to give sharks animals rights:

I saw a horrific video online of a captured shark in Western Australia being hung up by it's neck and tortured brutally with it's body cut open and being hit over the head with a metal pole. So i wondered why are these people not being jailed or even fined, I then found out more about the Western Australia animal laws and read the following.

"A person must not be cruel to an animal" which carries a minimum penalty of $2,000 and a maximum penalty of $50,000 and 5 years in jail.

So why has nothing been done? well in the Animal Welfare act 2002 it reads:
Animal means " A live Vertabrate or a live Invertabrate of a prescribed kind, other than a human or fish (As defined in the fish resources Animal Management Act 1994)

If Sharks were classed as Animals by law then people like this would not get away with cruelty to Sharks which like us humans and other animals suffer pain and stress.

The video can be seen here and all information is from http://www.sharkalarm.com.au/news

My aim for this petition is so that Sharks can be classed as animals in the eyes of the WA law and then we won't see videos such as this!

Please sign the petition at this link.

Willard Has 4 Days to be Saved from Euthanasia

Willard, a dog who was abused by his owner, is now running out of time for life as his euthanasia date approached.

The following description about Willard was shared on Facebook along with his picture (right).

Willard will be put down on 23 November 2012.

Willard...male, 2 yrs, 74lbs, not neutered, was extremely mistreated and starved, neighbors stated. He was beaten daily for no reason, removed from his former owners last week. AC is feeding him
three times a day now. He only weighed 50 lbs when he came into the shelter. He's really relaxed now, very happy, walking on a lead now, and loves being around the other dogs at the shelter. He was extremely scared when he arrived at shelter. He would try to hide in a corner and cry.

Willard deserves a chance! Surely there's someone out there for him. I sure hope someone will step up for him. You won't be sorry! He's a very grateful dog and shows it.

Juicy Needs to be Saved Urgently!

Here is a call for saving a sweet dog in SC on urgent basis.

Meet Juicy, who need a more regal, handsome name! This boy is young and wiley, and full of play. Juicy is a strong boy on the leash and will need some work with learning to take his time on the leash. This boy is way too interested in cats to be trusted, but who know, with time and exposure, how he would be? He acts like a silly energetic boy and loves kids and people, men and women equally. He is an alpha boy and would do best with a confident and seasoned owner. He wants to be alpha dog with other dogs, so for now, he is best being placed by himself. Certainly, he is a great dog with tons of promise to be a loyal member of a household, and gosh, is he just gorgeous. He needs to get out of the shelter environment soon as he has too much competition there for the attention of passers-by.

Call Chester County AC in SC at (803) 385-6341 or email chesterscanimalcontrol@yahoo.com for information on Juicy.

He is heartworm negative!
Rescue Pull Fee: $16 including vaccinations and dewormer
Heartworm Test $5

All animals will be taken to Carolina Place Vet in Richbourg, SC for spay/neuter and any other vetting needed. Rescues must call in credit card info before Animal Control drops the animal off at (803) 789-5047. Any pledges will be paid directly to the rescue via paypal or snail mail.

Hardly 48 Hours to Save a Keystone Fish Species

The following email notification from Save Our Environment urges on all caring people to help save the endangered keystone species of fish called menhaden.

~ ~ ~

A menhaden doesn't look like much – about a foot long and weighing just a pound – but they're perhaps the most important fish in North America, and they're under extreme danger.

Menhaden populations have plummeted 90 percent over the past 25 years and remain at an all-time low. These small fish are a keystone species: as prey for larger animals, menhaden decline threatens to disrupt coastal and marine food webs and affect the thousands of fishing, whale-watching, and bird-watching businesses that menhaden help support.

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission has the power to make decisions that are critical to the recovery of Atlantic menhaden and the ocean wildlife that depend on them for food. Right now they are accepting public comments regarding menhaden fishery, but only until 5:00 pm EST tomorrow. We need you to take a moment right now to let the commission know that it's time to protect life in the Atlantic.

Send a letter by the November 16th deadline to the ASMFC to urge them to modernize menhaden fishery.

In a landmark move last year, East Coast fishery managers – responding to a plea for action by more than 90,000 people like you – already committed to advancing new protections for Atlantic menhaden. But we need to make sure these plans become real improvements in the water.

The most crucial element is to take steps to guarantee more menhaden in the ocean to promote their recovery. Despite their importance, right now there is no limit on the total amount of menhaden that can be caught at sea. Every year, hundreds of millions of them are ground up to make fertilizer; fish meal for farm animals, pets, and aquaculture; and oil for dietary supplements.

The ASMFC has a chance to make the historic decision to bring menhaden fishery into the modern era, and in the process save thousands of animals. Send them your message right now, before it's too late.

Thank you again for everything you do to protect our environment.

Sincerely,

Mike Town

Abused Dog Kalise Waiting for Second Chance at Life

A female dog, possibly abused by breeders, is a high-kill New York shelter, waiting for somebody to finally give her a home before her turn for euthanasia arrives.

The following description of the dog Kalise is provided by a Facebook post (in the dogs own words).

KALISE - A0950246
I am an unaltered female, brown brindle Cane Corso mix.
The shelter staff think I am about 6 years old.
I weigh 90 pounds.
I was found in NY 11225.
I have been at the shelter since Oct 30, 2012.

A volunteer at the shelter descries Kalise thus:

Kalise is not happy in her kennel and cries to come out! She is a large dog and was probably used to roam free in a yard. She even had a companion, Maleyo who was brought along with her. She clearly misses him and seems all excited in a nice way to see him. Kalise is an imposing big girl but such a mush. I just love her..... She is so good on the leash, walking calmly by my side and checking on me all the time. Yes, we are in sync, sweetie, do not worry...She sits on command, tries to come with her 90 pounds on my lap and gives so many kisses. Kalise is such a gentle female. She is beautiful in her oversized body. She has very sweet eyes . If someone tried to make her look mean by cropping her ears, he or she did not succeed. Kalise is very tender and loving. There is so much to love about her...Kalise has had many litters and it seems that she had one not that long ago. I wonder where all these babes are. They must be gigantic like their parents...Kalise looks like a healthy girl and she has many good years ahead of her given a chance. She is an awesome dog, affectionate and well mannered. I hope that soon, someone will fall in love with her and take her to her new forever home.

If interested in adopting this dog, please follow the instructions of the shelter:

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org, but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person.
